چکیده

Salinity adversely affects 20-30% of the irrigated area in world. Tomato is sensitive to salinity. It one most severe abiotic factors many agricultural crops and it becoming main problem Ethiopia. This study was conducted evaluate effects different salinity levels on seed germination parameters tomato varieties. laid out a completely randomized design with three replicates. The treatment included four varieties (Sirinka, Weyno, ARP D2, Roma VF) five (1 dS m-1, 2 3 4 control). Fifty seeds were placed Petri dish over moistened paper for seedlings allowed grow 14 days. rate, speed energy significantly (p < 0.001) affected by combined effect variety shortest mean time, highest recorded D2 control treatment. lowest first last days germination, uncertainty from D2. However, an increase decrease index total percentage trends observed increasing levels. level (4 m-1) Among tested varieties, VF tolerant

The effect of seed priming and culture medium type on germination characteristics and quality of tomato seedlings (Lycopersicon esculentum)

Extended Abstract Introduction: Today, seed priming is widely used to improve seed germination in a wide range of plant species. As a result of seed pre-treatment, several molecular and biochemical changes occur, including increased macromolecule synthesis, enzyme activity and formation of different metabolites. Enzymatic and metabolic activities, synthesis of proteins in quantitative and qual...

In vitro flowering and fruiting in tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.)

In vitro flowering and fruiting were induced in plants regenerated from calli of leaf explants of Lycopersicon esculentum var. Pant 11. MS medium supplemented with 2 mg/l BAP displayed the best response followed by MS with 2 mg/l BAP, 1 mg/ l ABA and 0.5 mg/l IAA. Flower buds were developed both directly from callus and regenerated plantlets from leaf explants under 16 h (39.3 μmol m-2s-1) phot...

Effect of Genotype and Explant Type on in Vitro Shoot Regeneration of Tomato (lycopersicon Esculentum Mill.)

In order to select the best tomato cultivar for Agrobacterium mediated gene transformation studies, In vitro regeneration frequency of hypocotyls, leaf disc and shoot tip of five tomato cultivars (Lycopersicon esculentum) was investigated on a regeneration medium supplemented with 1 mg/l zeatin and 0.1 mg/l indole-3-acetic acid. Significant differences in regeneration capacity between genotypes...

Effect of High Temperature and Heat Shock on Tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) Genotypes under Controlled Conditions

Tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum MILL.) is usually produced during the winter period in Sudan. In summer due to high temperatures, monthly average temperatures are between 31 to 35°C, a shortage of tomatoes is common. General environmental changes, especially global warming, may have an adverse effect on crop production in Sudan. The objective of this study is (i) to investigate the effect of he...

Priming and accelerated ageing affect L-isoaspartyl methyltransferase activity in tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) seed

Damage and degradation of cellular proteins is observed during age-induced seed deterioration, LIsoaspartyl protein methyltransferase (EC 2.1.1.77) is an enzyme hypothesized to play a role in limiting and repairing age-induced damage to proteins. Tomato {Lycopersicon esculentum Mill. 'New Yorker') seeds were assayed for changes in L-isoaspartyl methyltransferase activity during accelerated agei...
